Besides being the co-author with Dorothy Hearst of the At the Heels of History series, Pam Berkman is the author of the bestselling Her Infinite Variety: Stories of Shakespeare and the Women He Loved (Simon & Schuster) and The Falling Nun (Simon & Schuster). Her short story “Duty” from Her Infinite Variety appears in Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s leading national ELA curriculum, Collections, and the title story from The Falling Nun was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her favorite quote from Shakespeare is, “Words, words, words!” She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she also works as an editor, with her husband and twin sons. Besides being co-author with Pam Berkman of the At the Heels of History series, Dorothy Hearst is the author of the Wolf Chronicles trilogy (Simon & Schuster). The series, which includes the books Promise of the Wolves (an Indie Next pick), Secrets of the Wolves, and Spirit of the Wolves tells the story of how the wolf evolved into the dog from the point of view of a young wolf living 14,000 years ago. Called by Kirkus “a vivid, enchanting tale of friendship, trust and adventure,” the series has been embraced by both adult and young readers. Dorothy is a member of the San Francisco Writers Grotto and contributed the foreword to the Writing SciFi and Fantasy installment of the Grotto’s Lit Starts writing prompt series (Abrams, 2020).
Previously Dorothy was an acquiring editor at Jossey-Bass/Wiley where she published books for nonprofit, public and social change leaders, and for Sounds True where she published books on personal transformation. She has been an actor, editor, marketing professional, and book doctor. She is a martial artist, self-defense teacher, hiker, reader, and would really like to pet your dog.

Claire is a bestselling children’s book illustrator working in London, UK. She started out designing for big-hitting television brands, before an impromptu visit to a children’s book exhibition led her down the path of illustration. Self-taught, Claire got her first book deal in 2015 and has never looked back.
A hugely versatile artist, Claire has a talent for creating characters that are brimming with emotion and personality. Her sense of humor often infuses her work, which ranges from delightfully silly tales of octopi searching for pants (Octopants) to festive rhyming romps about Santa preparing for Christmas (The Night Before, The Night Before Christmas). Her strong eye for detail and composition is demonstrated beautifully in the Heels of History series, where historical details are woven into her heartwarming, emotive scenes.
